Southern Oregon Coast Romantic Drives
A trip from Southern Oregon to the Coast is a simple overnight romantic getaway with just enough quirks to make it fun and uniquely memorable for you and your lover, and includes drives along Oregon scenic byways. This Oregon scenic drives itinerary takes a couple from Roseburg to Bandon through a safari a winery, and a few charming Oregon towns.
Directions:
- Take OR-99 S/Coos Bay-Roseburg Highway (4 miles)
- Turn right at OR-42 W/OR-99 S to Winston (3 miles)
- Continue on OR-42 W/Coos Bay-Roseburg Highway to Tenmile (9 miles)
- Continue southwest on OR-42 W/Coos Bay-Roseburg Highway (50 miles)
- Left at OR-42S W/Coquille-Bandon Highway to Bandon (17 miles)
Start your journey in Roseburg, and make sure to bring a picnic lunch with you. Head west just a few miles to Winston for your first and most interesting stop to put you in an adventurous mindset for the rest of the weekend: the Wildlife Safari! Animals from Africa, Asia and the America’s roam freely within the safari, which also features a petting zoo and gardens.
The next stop offers a little more sophisticated taste of romance. Step off the road into Giradet Wine Cellars in Tenmile. Take a tour of the cellars and taste the local varietals. Then stake out a spot on the beautiful grounds to enjoy your picnic lunch along with a bottle of your new favorite local vino.
From Giradet, continue your drive west to the coast : destination Bandon. Spend the afternoon exploring the charming little town. There are several art galleries, museums, and shops, and you must stop in for some artisan chocolates at Coastal Mist. For a special treat later on, contact Bandon Beach Riding Stables to take a horseback ride along the beach at sunset.
Spend the night at the luxurious Bandon Dunes Golf Resort Inn; they have a wide variety of rooms to suit different tastes and budgets. You can eat dinner there in the Gallery Restaurant, which serves Pacific Northwest Cuisine including, of course, great seafood and wine.
Breakfast the next morning at Bandon Baking Co. & Deli. Then, unless you want to play golf at the resort, go to the beach for a comfortable lazy day. Pick up savory sandwiches for lunch to-go from the 2 Loons Café, or select ingredients from a local grocery market before hitting the sand with your sweetheart. Run in the cold waves, fly a kite, nap in the sand, read poetry or stories aloud to one another, build a sand castle, and snap lots of photos together before returning home to the “real world.”
