There is a shore movie you can watch on the geological history of this amazing area with rock formations and ‘Painted Hills’. Just a short distance down the road is the James Cant Ranch a restored 1917 ranch house that houses cultural and historical displays.
The area around John Day contains some of the most important paleontological resources known. Surrounded by Strawberry Mountains to the south and the Blue Mountains to the north, John the area is laid back and open space.
